One of the best parts about an open source solution and community is that everyone can contribute and make an impact. At DNN Summit we are happy to bring the community together in person and give everyone an opportunity to get involved via a live code-a-thon. That’s right we’re starting off the conference with a code-a-thon lead by DNN Community leaders. It will be a great opportunity to contribute, connect, learn, and make an impact.
What to Expect:
Come prepared to work on fixing a bug that you've noticed or improving an area of the platform that you feel needs to be enhanced. Facilitators from
Engage and DNN Corp will be on hand to guide your work in the right direction. We'll help you pick a starting place, open an issue in JIRA (the system that tracks bugs), start a pull request on GitHub (where we manage code contributions), and finally we’ll implement your fix or update in DNN's codebase or documentation.
You Don’t Have to Be a Guru to Participate
Don't know how to code, prefer the design side of things, or are you more of an “ideas” person? You don’t have to be an advanced developer or talented designer to participate, all are welcome and can make an impact. Don’t worry, we'll pair you with a developer to ensure you can craft an amazing contribution together as community members. Don't have an enhancement in mind? We can pair you with an "ideas person," or point you in the direction of some known issues that will fit your skill set.
What to Bring
Attendees should bring a laptop (don’t forget your power cords). A Windows operating system will likely be the best fit unless you are design oriented. If you don’t already have
Visual Studio (Community Edition),
SQL Server (Express), and
Git installed… go ahead and install them, as installing beforehand will save us some time.
We Look Forward to Seeing You at the DNN Summit Code-a-thon
This is your opportunity to learn your way around DNN, scratch your own itch, meet fellow DNN Community members from various walks of life and improve the platform for thousands of websites across the world. You can make a difference and we want to help you!
We hope to see you at the Code-a-thon!
